Worship Ministries

Liturgy means "the work of the people."  We look forward to your involvement in our liturgical life.  There are many ways in which lay (non-ordained) people can be involved in worship at St. John's Church Cathedral. Due to COVID-19 precautions, some of these commitments are currently on hold.

Here are brief descriptions of the opportunities available. Contact the office for more information, or to become involved in these ministries, 509-838-4277.

Altar Guild—Care for the vessels and fine linens of the altar, set up for the Eucharist, and oversee special services’ decor.

Acolytes—Assist the clergy and people during the liturgy, and assist the priests and deacons at the altar. For youth 4th grade and older, and adults.

Lectors—Read the Old Testament Lesson and the Epistle during worship. For adults, and youth middle school and older.

Intercessors—Offer the Prayers of the People at the Sunday 10:30am service.

Ushers—Greet worshippers, assist with seating, distribute bulletins, collect the offering, direct the orderly flow of persons to the altar during communion, help in emergencies, and assist the clergy.

Greeters—Welcome those who come to worship, offer information about Cathedral ministries, assist the clergy in identifying newcomers and visitors.
