Members of the Altar Guild care for the vessels and fine linens of the altar, set up for the Eucharist, and oversee the decor for special services. For adults only.
Acolytes are lay ministers (not ordained) enhance worship services to help glorify God. During the procession, they carry the torches, the cross, the gospel, and banners. They assist the clergy during the service in many ways including receiving the offering and preparing for the Eucharist. For children (beginning in 4th grade), youth, and adults.
Eucharistic Ministers are lay ministers (not ordained) that assist in the distribution of the Eucharist during the service. They are licensed by the diocese. Some also refer to this ministry as chalice bearing. For adults only.
These lay ministers read scripture and prayers during worship services. Lectors–the term comes from the Latin word “to read”--usually read the Old Testament lesson and the Epistle. For adults and youth.
Ushers greet worshippers, assist with seating, distribute bulletins, collect the offering, direct the orderly flow of persons to the altar during communion, help in emergencies, and assist the clergy. For youth and adults.
