St. John's seeks to nurture all people of God in a community that encourages questioning, challenges thinking, and promotes learning to reveal the love and joy of God for all persons. A variety of Cathedral resources and activities provide opportunities for adults to grow in faith.

Bible Studies

Sunday Morning Bible Study
Sundays, 9:15am

This study focuses on a single book of Bible, taking it chapter by chapter. It meets between the Sunday morning services led by a parishioner.

Young Adult Bible Study
Wednesdays, 7-9pm, Library

Young Adult Bible Study (YABS) is an open space especially for those in their 20s. We meet on Wednesday evening from 7-9pm in the Cathedral Library. We catch up around food and pray together, and then have a wide-ranging conversation grounded in a careful reading of Scripture. We are currently reading Genesis. All are welcome and we often have guests from beyond our congregation.

Small Groups

St. John’s has several small groups that meet regularly to deepen relationships,  serve the church, pursue spiritual formation, or do outreach in the community. Some are called “guilds” because of the common work that binds the members together. Some of our small groups include:

  • Altar Guild
  • St. Monica’s Guild
  • St. Clare Needleworkers
  • Hope for Creation
  • Daughters of the King
Coombs Library

The purpose of the Coombs Library is to support the work of our parish, and the spiritual, theological and intellectual growth of the individual members of the Cathedral community, both lay and ordained. This is accomplished through the provision of books and materials that provide information, inspiration, spiritual guidance or education/worship resources.

The Coombs Library is located in the office suite of the Welcome Center, and is open when the office is. The library’s holdings may be consulted through the catalog.

Lenten Study

During the six weeks of Lent, adults in the congregation engage in a variety of activities in order to encourage contemplation and reflection. These activities are announced in the weeks prior to Ash Wednesday.

Labyrinth

St. John’s has three labyrinths to facilitate meditation and prayer. People of all ages are encouraged to walk a labyrinth as a prayerful practice that focuses one’s mind and soul on God.
