The Windfall is a secondhand store that contains low cost clothing, shoes, household items, books, and other “treasures” including seasonal decorations. All items are donated and donations (except electronics) are gratefully accepted. The income generated supports outreach programs in the community, especially in the Perry District neighborhood.

It is operated solely by volunteers, with oversight from the Service League of St. John's. If you are interested in helping sort and price items, stock racks and shelves, or help customers, please contact the store: (509) 534-3888.

History of the Windfall

In the late 1950s, two women from St. John's Cathedral proposed opening a thrift store to raise money to furnish a new part of the cathedral. Following their vision, the first store was opened in 1961 in the landmark Windmill building on South Perry. They hoped that the store would not only raise funds, but also provide low-cost items to people living in the neighborhood.

The store was so successful, they relocated to the bigger storefront at 1024 South Perry in 1966. At the same time, they changed the name from the Windmill to Windfall–a particularly apt name for a thrift store.

Over the years, the Windfall has given the proceeds to local charities, including Union Gospel Mission, Daybreak Youth Services, Arc of Spokane, Grant Elementary, and Liberty Park Community Development Center.
