Activities for Children

Sunday School

All of our Sunday School classes meet at 10:00 a.m. in the classrooms of Jewett house.

Preschool (ages 3 - 4), Kindergarten - second grades

Godly Play
Godly Play is a curriculum designed especially for the developmental needs and abilities of the young child. Godly play was created by, Jerome Berryman, a theologian and priest. It employs the Montessori teaching method with the art of story telling. The stories of the Bible are explained in a way that increases the young child’s understanding of their meanings.

Intermediate (grades 3-5): Godly Play & Weaving God’s Promises

This is our curriculum that has been created for the needs of our children by our friend, Joanna Leiserson. Weaving God’s promises includes games, crafts and activities that reinforce the story that the children learn each week. This class also participates in outreach projects throughout the year.

Choir class (children in first grade and up)

Billie Severtsen teaches our junior choir for children in the first grade and up. This multi age classroom combines music instruction with church history and Biblical lessons. The junior choir sings at the 9:00 service on Sunday mornings.

Servers (Acolytes)

4th through 12th-graders are encouraged to serve as acolytes at the Sunday morning services, where they receive training and gain an understanding of the rich heritage of the Liturgy while enjoying the special privilege of serving at the altar. Servers also enjoy special social events and the camaraderie of working together to perform this special ministry. They are greatly relied upon in presentation of the liturgy.

Junior Choir

The Junior Choir sings at the 9:00 a.m. service on Sundays and with the Cathedral Choir on special occasions. Children aged six and older are welcome to participate. In addition to enjoying the privilege of praising God through music participants learn how to read music, work together as part of a group and significantly improve reading skills. Parents wishing to enroll children in the Junior Choir are invited to contact Dr. Billie Severtsen, Director, at 624-5469 or 324-7286, at the Cathedral Office, 838-4277, or by email using the Contact link here.
